A shower replacement is more than a cosmetic refresh. It's the complete removal of your existing shower walls and base — whether failing fiberglass, cracked tile, or mold-compromised material — and installation of a custom-built Onyx Collection solid-surface system in its place.
Fiberglass showers yellow, crack, and develop surface crazing that no cleaner can fix. Tile showers look good when new, but grout is porous — it absorbs minerals, soap scum, and moisture. In Minnesota, with its characteristically hard water, grout stains faster and cracks earlier than in softer-water regions. The annual re-caulking cycle starts. Corners separate. Water finds its way behind the surface.
At some point, the shower has reached the end of its service life. Re-caulking buys months. Replacement is the durable solution.
The process begins with a free in-home consultation. We measure your shower opening precisely — Onyx panels are custom-fabricated to those exact dimensions, not cut from stock panels. You select your color and pattern from the samples we bring to your home. The panels are ordered.
When panels arrive (typically three to four weeks), installation begins. In many homes, Onyx can be installed directly over existing tile walls — no demolition needed, less mess, faster install. In other cases, the existing surface comes down first. Installation of a standard shower is typically completed in one to two days. You have a new shower by the end of the week.
Fiberglass is porous and scratches. Tile is handsome but grout-dependent — and grout fails. Onyx Collection solid surface is non-porous: water, soap, and minerals sit on top rather than embedding in the material. Wipe it with a damp cloth. No grout to seal. No caulk to replace every spring. No staining that can't be removed.
Onyx is also custom-fabricated — not a stock product installed in a standard size and trimmed to fit. Every panel is made to your bathroom's exact measurements, which means true seams and a finished appearance that stock products can't match.
Minnesota homes range from century-old urban bungalows in Minneapolis's Longfellow neighborhood to 1990s suburban builds in Maple Grove and Rogers. All of them have bathroom surfaces that have reached — or are approaching — the end of their service life. Fiberglass yellows with age and UV exposure. Grout cracks under the stress of Minnesota's thermal cycling: hot humid summers, brutal winters that drop below zero for weeks at a time.
That thermal cycling matters more than most homeowners realize. Every time your bathroom goes from cold to hot and back again, the materials in your shower expand and contract. Caulk develops micro-cracks. Grout loosens from the tile edge. Water finds the path behind the surface — and once it does, the repair bill stops being about the shower and starts being about the wall structure.
Onyx Collection solid-surface panels handle Minnesota's seasonal swings better than any caulk-dependent system. The installation uses a floating-panel approach that accommodates thermal movement without depending on caulk joints to stay watertight. Grout-free by design. The surface that fails in Minnesota's hard water environment — porous tile grout — doesn't exist in an Onyx shower.
Our three Minnesota locations — St. Joseph (St. Cloud area), Brainerd, and Litchfield — serve the full central and northern Minnesota market. We come to your home for the consultation. You don't drive to a showroom.
Most Onyx Collection shower replacements are completed in one to two days of installation. Before that, there's a three-to-four week wait for custom fabrication after we take measurements and you choose your color. From your free consultation to a finished new shower, the typical timeline is four to six weeks total.
Yes — in many cases, Onyx panels can be installed directly over existing ceramic or porcelain tile walls. This eliminates demolition costs and the associated mess and disruption. Whether it's the right approach depends on the condition of the wall surface underneath, which we assess during the free in-home consultation. We'll give you an honest assessment and explain both options.
Onyx Collection shower replacements typically start in the $3,000–$5,000 range for a standard configuration. Larger shower openings, custom features like built-in bench seats, multiple niches, or added accessories affect the final price. We provide written, itemized quotes after a free in-home visit — we do not provide estimates over the phone because the exact dimensions and configuration of your shower are what drive the price.
